Procrastination

Procrastination; we all do it. It's a habit that everyone does and we just can't stop it. But, what exactly is procrastination?

Well, procrastination is basically when you are putting less important jobs in front of the more important ones that you just can't be bothered to do. e.g. You need to study for that history exam coming up in 2 days but instead you log on to msn and chat to your friends but seriously, we live in the 21st century and we just don't have enough time to do everything we need & want to so sometimes we have to block out some wants. For example, if someone you have Art Club after school on Monday and that finishes at 5, then once you get home you spend an hour finishing your home work and another hour working on that Geography assignment then its 7 o'clock and you have to have dinner but then you realise that you forgot to do your English homework and you would get a detention if u didn't do it but right now you would usually go on myspace and msn and talk to friends but think about, do you really need to go on myspace? Will it be the end of the world if you didn't? If the answer is 'no' then I recommend you finish that homework.

How can we stop this? Well, for starters, you can do what I said in the last paragraph about asking yourself some questions like that and talking to yourself positively instead of negatively like "I will finish this" or "I will do this", think of "I will"s instead of "I won't"s, this will also get you in a better mood. Try to work out on a sheet of paper what is more important and what should be kept for later, this will not only remind you of what you need to do but will also keep you more organised. Also, you can start setting goals that you would like to reach and the feeling of happiness and proudness will thrust upon you once you achieve those goals but you could also just reward yourself. Another good idea is to remove anything that will distract you like your computer, iPod, mobile phone or TV.

Remember, you eventually have to do those important tasks so why spend 3 hours on the internet and then having to work to 3am to get that English essay finished when you could finish that essay first and then having all that spare time to do whatever you please. Also, you will feel a lot clearer because you have no other tasks to do & you will be free to do as you please and this also removes the feel of guilt.

I hope this advice helps you procrastinator's out there. Well I better go and finish my Language homework. Bye!

Amy ♥
